OUAC Application Guide for Ontario High School Students: Deadlines, Grades & What Happens Next

OUAC

In this guide

Applying to university in Ontario can feel complicated because the OUAC application connects your high school, program choices, grades, and university requirements. The simplest way to understand it is this: you apply through OUAC, your school sends academic information, and universities make the admission decisions.

At TutorBoost, we work with Ontario students balancing university applications with demanding Grade 12 courses. Understanding the OUAC application process helps you focus on both the application itself and the marks that still matter.

What Is OUAC and What Does It Do?

OUAC stands for the Ontario Universities’ Application Centre. It is the centralized service that processes applications to Ontario universities, but it does not decide who gets admitted; each university evaluates applicants independently.

OUAC collects your application information, program choices and payment, then sends the relevant information to the universities you selected.

Are You a Group A or Group B OUAC Applicant?

Your applicant group affects how grades and deadlines are handled. The current system uses Group A and Group B rather than the older 101 and 105 labels.

Most current Ontario high school students working toward an OSSD with six 4U/M courses are Group A applicants. Applicants who do not meet those criteria are generally Group B. OUAC determines your group from the information entered in your application.

When Is the OUAC Application Deadline?

The OUAC application deadline depends on your applicant group and sometimes the university or program.

For the current cycle, the Group A deadline is January 15, 2027. OUAC can still process later applications, but university-specific deadlines may apply. Group B applicants do not have one universal undergraduate deadline.

Because dates change, always check current OUAC key dates and each program’s admission page before applying.

What Should You Prepare Before Starting Your OUAC Application?

Research programs, Grade 12 prerequisites, admission requirements, deadlines and any supplementary components before creating your application.

Current Ontario high school students should have their Ontario Education Number, or OEN, available. OUAC also recommends researching your programs and recording the relevant choices before starting.

Some programs may also require a portfolio, interview, audition or supplementary application.

How Do You Complete an OUAC Application?

Create your account, complete your personal and background information, add university programs, review everything carefully, pay and submit.

After submission, keep your OUAC reference number for future communication. OUAC provides it once the application has been successfully submitted.

The current undergraduate base fee is $159 for the first three choices, with $51 for each additional choice. Some programs have extra fees, so verify the current amounts before paying.

Does OUAC Choice Order Matter?

Students can apply to multiple Ontario universities, with a current maximum of three choices at one university.

A common question is, “Does OUAC choice order matter?” Usually, numbering your choices does not affect admission decisions. However, a university can state an exception, so check the policy for programs you are seriously considering.

What Grades Does OUAC Send to Universities?

For Group A applicants, your current Ontario high school sends academic information, including grades, to OUAC. Those grades are matched to your application and updated as your school provides new information.

You normally do not upload your own Ontario high school grades. After applying, review your matched academic information and contact your guidance counsellor if anything is wrong.

Universities decide how and when they evaluate the academic information they receive, so do not assume every program follows exactly the same admissions formula.

Why Do Grade 12 Courses Still Matter After You Apply?

Submitting an OUAC application does not freeze your academic record. Universities continue receiving updated grades, and admission decisions can still depend on prerequisites, admission averages, and the conditions attached to an offer.

This is especially important for programs that require specific Grade 12 courses. For example, MHF4U Advanced Functions is a common prerequisite for many Ontario university programs in areas such as business, science, engineering, and mathematics.

Students should therefore continue treating prerequisite courses seriously after submitting their OUAC application. Stronger final and midterm grades can help support an application, while a drop in a required course may affect whether admission requirements or conditional-offer terms are met.

What Happens After You Submit Your OUAC Application?

OUAC sends your application to your selected universities, which normally acknowledge it and provide information about their own applicant portals and supporting-document requirements.

From there, monitor your email, OUAC account and university portals. You may need to submit documents, complete a supplementary application, attend an interview or meet another program-specific requirement.

If a supplementary application is required, the university will provide the instructions and deadline, and the material is submitted directly to that university rather than through the standard OUAC application.

Can You Change Your OUAC Application After Submitting It?

Yes. Many application details and program choices can be changed after submission, subject to deadlines and fees. Students can add or withdraw program choices after submitting. If you make changes, you must complete the Review and Payment steps again so those updates are actually sent to the universities.

If you add, replace or withdraw a program, review the consequences first because deadlines and fees can apply.

When Do Ontario Universities Send Offers?

Ontario universities make decisions at different times, so there is no single offer date. For current-cycle Group A students who apply by the main deadline, May 28, 2027 is the latest date they can expect a response, while June 1, 2027 is the earliest date they may be required to respond to an offer.

A conditional offer means you have been admitted provided you continue meeting stated conditions, often involving final grades or prerequisite courses. Read those conditions carefully rather than assuming the process is finished once an offer arrives.

How Can Tutoring Fit Into the OUAC Process?

University applications and academic preparation are connected. If a required Grade 12 course is pulling down your admission average or putting a conditional offer at risk, targeted support can focus on the exact skill causing the problem.

Personalized Math tutoring, Science and English tutoring can support prerequisite courses while students continue through the application process. The goal is not to “study for OUAC,” but to strengthen the academic record universities actually evaluate.

What Should You Remember About OUAC From Start to Finish?

Think of the process as research, apply, verify, monitor and respond.

Research programs, apply accurately, verify your choices and grades, monitor university portals, and respond to offers while continuing to meet academic conditions.

That sequence covers the main OUAC application process without making university applications more complicated than they need to be.
